Quail West Resident Jennifer Deutsch Is Building More Than a Food Brand
From Corporate Leadership to a Greater Calling
How one Quail West resident transformed a lifetime of experience into a local brand with a national vision and a mission that reaches far beyond the breakfast table.
There is something unmistakably comforting about the aroma of granola slowly baking in the oven: warm butter, toasted pecans, local raw honey, cinnamon, and vanilla. For most people, it’s the smell of home. For Quail West resident Jennifer Deutsch, it’s the scent of purpose.
Every batch of Granny-O-La Granola is handcrafted in small batches using premium ingredients sourced as close to home as possible. But what comes out of the oven is far more than breakfast. Every golden cluster represents hope for families facing cancer, support for local farmers and businesses, and proof that experience and compassion can create an extraordinary impact.
Today, Granny-O-La has become one of Naples’ favorite locally made food brands, yet Jennifer says she never intended to build just another granola company. After more than four decades leading iconic brands at Nestlé, Stouffer Foods, Marriott International, and Park Place Technologies, she wasn’t starting over...she was building on a lifetime of experience. The family granola recipe she had perfected for more than fifteen years finally found its purpose when life changed forever
A Promise That Became a Business
Several years ago, Jennifer was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin lymphoma. While receiving treatment at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, she witnessed firsthand the dedication of physicians and researchers advancing cancer care. During one conversation with her oncologist, Dr. Andrew Zelenetz, she made a promise: one day she would retire, sell her granola, and donate the profits to support cancer research.
Today, Granny-O-La donates 50 percent of its profits to Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. The company wasn’t created to compete on grocery shelves; it was created to give back.
Jennifer believes Granny-O-La could only have happened in Naples. Local partnerships have become the foundation of the business. Raw Saw Palmetto honey comes from Naples-based Rubee Honey. The company’s first retail partner was Grumpy Goat Coffee Company, and as production expanded, Kristy’s Key Lime Cookies welcomed Jennifer into its commercial bakery. Juicelation and many other local businesses followed. One introduction became another, and the community helped build the brand while strengthening Southwest Florida’s network of small businesses.
Built With Purpose, Growing With Hope
Granny-O-La stands apart because of both its ingredients and its intention. Instead of oils, Jennifer uses real butter. Every batch is hand-turned throughout baking to create light, crisp clusters, while locally sourced honey, premium nuts, seeds, dried fruits, and spices elevate every recipe.
Customer-inspired creations have become signature products. Cam’s Climber Crunch was developed with Naples tree climber Cam Massiate to provide sustained energy during long workdays, while Rosemary Olive Oil grew from a retailer’s request for a savory granola using herbs harvested from local gardens. Jennifer listens first, then creates.
Jennifer also credits Quail West for embracing both her family and her mission. Residents support Granny-O-La not only because they enjoy the product, but because they believe in what it represents. Today the company ships nationwide, serves customers in nearly 30 states, and continues expanding through collaborations with local businesses. Yet Jennifer measures success differently than most entrepreneurs. Every bag sold helps fund cancer research. Every partnership strengthens another local business. Every customer becomes part of something much bigger. Sometimes the simplest recipe: exceptional ingredients, thoughtful craftsmanship, and generosity can nourish far more than hunger. It can nourish hope.
The Heart
Behind every bag of Granny-O-La is a family team that believes life’s greatest accomplishments are built together. Jennifer Deutsch is the face of the brand, but she is the first to say Granny-O-La is very much a family effort.
Her husband is involved in nearly every aspect of the business, from sourcing ingredients and making deliveries to handling legal documents and lending a hand wherever he’s needed. Their sons and daughter-in-law also contribute ideas, encouragement, and expertise, making Granny-O-La a true family endeavor.
For Jennifer, cooking has always been more than preparing meals; it has been her way of bringing people together.
Long before Granny-O-La became a business, friends, neighbors, and coworkers looked forward to receiving her homemade granola during the holidays. It became a tradition, one she happily continued for years without ever imagining it would become the foundation of a company. She believes the best ideas often begin with simply asking questions, listening carefully, and forming genuine relationships.
Since making Quail West their home, Jennifer and her husband have found a community that shares those same values. They enjoy the friendships they’ve built, the welcoming spirit of the neighborhood, and the opportunity to support fellow local businesses and charitable causes. Whether greeting neighbors at the Quail West Farmers Market or introducing someone to Granny-O-La for the first time, Jennifer is happiest making personal connections.
For Jennifer and her family, Granny-O-La isn’t simply a brand. It’s a reflection of who they are: generous, hardworking, optimistic, and grateful for the opportunity to make a difference, one bag of granola at a time.
